Bottom Line

Our Samurai Kitchen Knife Set review shows that it is a great 15-piece set that contains all the knives you’ll need in your kitchen. All the knives in the set are made of high-quality German steel.

They are hand finished in Japan and sharpened to a 15° angle which is just fine for a kitchen knife.

While the handle of the knives is ergonomically designed, the quality of the material used for the knives isn’t ideal for a premium knife since it lacks durability.

Ergonomic knives are all the rage in the cookware industry today. There is a popular belief among cooks that anyone who uses an ergonomically designed knife once will never want to use anything else again.

So, imagine what will happen when you buy a complete set of ergonomic knives like the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set. This set is made up of 13 knives, one shear, and one sharpening rod.

The knives are just what you would need in your modern kitchen. So, if you buy a set, you’ll not need to buy any extra knife for your kitchen. You’ll be good to go with the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set.

However, when it comes to buying a set of knives, you will need to consider more than how many items come with the set.

Things like durability, price, and even beauty all come into play. This is what our Samurai Kitchen Knife Set review is going to address.

Features of the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set

ice tampered 4116 steel

Ice Tampered 4116 Steel

During production, the steel is melted into a liquid using extreme heat just like with the production of other forms of metal objects. After being heated, it is transferred into the mold that gives it the desired shape.

The third stage of the production process involves tampering or cooling the steel. The Samurai Kitchen Knife Set like many other forms of premium knives are treated with ice. This is what we refer to as ice tampering.

The steel is treated in extreme cold ranging between 10°F and – 150°F. The goal is to optimize its atomic alignment, thus allowing it to retain its sharpness for long.

Some advocates of ice tampering claim that it makes the steel stronger compared to its non-ice tampered counterparts. However, there is no evidence to support this.

The only confirmation we have is that ice tampered steel is better at retaining sharpness. This is why the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set is sharp out of the box and maintains its sharpness for a long time.

If any of the knives get dull with time, you can re-sharpen it using the steel sharpening rod that comes with the set.

Premium German Steel

Just like Japanese steel, German steel is among the best quality of steel used by cookware manufacturers.

It is made from big iron using charcoal as fuel in a forge. The use of charcoal as fuel is what ensures that the knife isn’t too soft after production.

The charcoal is the carbon supply and high carbon steel is always harder and more durable with low carbon steel.

The Rockwell score of German steel knives ranges from 56-58 which isn’t so bad for kitchen knives. German steel is also great for edge retention.

Unlike other forms of high carbon steel, the 4116 steel used for the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set is made of 15% chromium. The chromium content ensures that the knife is corrosion-resistant.

Rust is a common problem when you’re dealing with high carbon steel but this isn’t a problem with the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set.

Complete Set of Essential Knives

The Samurai Kitchen Knife Set comes with all the knives you will need in your kitchen. There are six 4.5 inches steak knives. This isn’t unusual for a set of knives as most comes with multiple steak knives.

No set is complete without a quality bread knife. The bread knife is 8-inches long just like the chef’s knife and the slicing knife.

The santoku knife, the common multipurpose knife is included in the set and it is 7 inches long.

The boning knife in the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set is 6 inches long and the pairing knife is 3.5 inches long.

The set comes with a steel sharpening rod and a pair of kitchen shears. Everything comes in a fancy black block with a sleek finish.

rubber coated ergonomic handle

Rubber Coated Ergonomic Handle

The handle of the knife is ergonomically designed so you don’t need to worry about hurting yourself.

To make the knife even more comfortable, all the handles are rubber coated and hand-finished just like the rest of the knife.

However, it would have made more sense if the handles were made of materials with better quality.

So, even if the blades are strong, the handles are not made to last for a lifetime. This is one of the biggest flaws of the Samurai Kitchen Knife Set.

Samurai Kitchen Knife Set Review The Verdict

Our Samurai Kitchen Knife Set review shows that it is a great premium knife set for anyone who is considering buying more than a single knife.

The set comes with everything you will need so you don’t have to buy any additional knife or even a sharpening rod.

They are all made of German steel, a high carbon premium steel that is popularly known for its edge retention and anti-corrosion properties.

The set comes at around $200 to $250 which is on the high side, especially when you consider the fact that the knife handles aren’t the best in the market.

It has 4.4 stars on Amazon which isn’t so bad for a set of kitchen knives.

Most of the clients were happy with the knife but most of the people who weren’t comfortable with the knife complained about the handle.
